Nokia Lumia 928 reviewed (video)

PhoneArena have posted their review of the Nokia Lumia 928 , currently available at Verizon.

They note the pros of the low price, slightly thinner and lighter design, Nokia enhancements and camera quality, but lamented the long time it takes to make a focus adjustment when recording video, and the lack of improvement in the specs department.

Nokia Lumia 928 unboxing

Verizon customers watch out, you have one snazzy Windows Phone heading your way very soon! Already, Big Red’s customer base has been exposed to the entry-level like Nokia Lumia 822, but we bet they’re drooling for something far better – specs and feature wise, of course.

Fortunately, the Nokia Lumia 928, a distant relative of the mighty Lumia 920, is coming to Verizon’s lineup starting on May 16th for the 2-year contract price of $99.99. When it boils down, it seems as though it’s a skinnier and lighter version of its sibling. Continue reading

Nokia Lumia 928 – Unboxing and first impressions of Verizon’s upcoming Windows Phone

We told you earlier that we’d do an unboxing and give you our first impressions of Verizon’s new flagship Lumia, the 928. The device is due any day now on the carrier for $99 on contract and while it’s not the sexiest Lumia we’ve handled, as Han Solo once quipped: she has it where it counts, kid.

Nokia Lumia 928 – Unboxing

The Lumia 928 features a stunning 4.5” AMOLED display, the same highend PureView camera as the Lumia 920 but with a bonus Xenon flash, a high quality rear speaker with digital amplifier and a unique design that only Verizon users will get to experience. It’s a Lumia 920 but refined: thinner and easier to handle.

While the phone only comes in white or black, with no bold yellow or cyans to be found, the device performs just as well as you’d expect and it doesn’t feel cheap about it.

We’ll post some sample photos tomorrow that we’ll take during Nokia’s press even on May 14th and have a full review in the coming days. For now, take a gander at our comparison video with unboxing and some photos!

Update: For those wondering about the OS, it’s the current 10211 (GDR1) Windows Phone 8 build.

Nokia announces the Lumia 928: 4.5-inch OLED display, OIS camera, available May 16th for $100 (video)

If you hadn’t heard enough of Nokia’s near future plans for its Lumia range, sorry there’s more. While its official event isn’t until next Tuesday in London, it hasn’t stopped the company announcing the Lumia 928 on Verizon.

Nokia Lumia 928

Again. Nokia’s latest installment supplants the Lumia 822 and HTC’s 8X for the US carrier, matching the camera specifications (Carl Zeiss f/2.0 lens, 8.7-megapixel sensor) we saw in theLumia 920 and pairing it all with a potent xenon flash. There’s also high-amp mics and a 4.5-inch OLED (1,280 x 768) display protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass. Inside, you’ll find a capable 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 2,000mAH battery and 32GB of storage for all those low-blur photos. Looking at the phone itself, compared to the bright (admittedly chunky) looks of its predecessor, we’re looking at a toned-down refresh, with a more squared look aiming to complement those Windows Phone Live Tiles.

Contactless charging and NFC are both built-in, as are all those extra Nokia software additions, including Here maps and Nokia Music. It’ll launch in the US on May 16th, priced at $99.99 with a mail-in rebate, while you’ll also pick up $25 of credit for Windows Phone apps and games if you decide to sign up. Nokia’s got an officially-sanctioned hands-on after the break — expect to see our opinions on it next week.

Sunnyvale, Calif., USA – Nokia today announced the Nokia Lumia 928 smartphone, the latest installment in Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 lineup, exclusive to Verizon Wireless.

With Nokia’s award-winning PureView imaging innovation, including optical image stabilization, the Nokia Lumia 928 enables people to capture bright, blur-free photos and videos, even in low light conditions such as indoors or at night. Great looking images come easily when snapping them with the smartphone’s 8.7MP camera featuring a high-quality, wide angle Carl Zeiss lens. The glass extends to the very edge of the phone for a high-end feel.

The Nokia Lumia 928 includes access to signature Lumia apps including the complete set of the feature-rich, intuitive and customizable HERE experiences. HERE Maps, HERE Drive+, HERE Transit** and HERE City Lens help people navigate their life every day. Using Nokia Music with Mix Radio, people can enjoy unlimited streaming of free music playlists with the option to create personal playlists and download for listening offline. Digital camera lenses and apps, including Smart Shoot, Cinemagraph, Panorama, and Photobeamer**, enable people to unleash their creativity.

The Nokia Lumia 928 also comes with built-in wireless charging; just lay it down to power-up, it’s that easy.

Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 camera outed by ads: PureView, OIS, Carl Zeiss all along for the ride

Today brings yet another glimpse of the Nokia Lumia 928. Whether Nokia’s deliberately putting up billboards and magazine ads or they’ve lost control of their ad agency isn’t clear (we’d bet on the former), they’ve successfully managed to build up some buzz without saying anything official. Just today an ad for the Lumia 928 popped up in Vanity Fair, with a link to Nokia’s website for the image above.

“Capture the highlights” the ad implores, and though the Nokia page doesn’t say anything about the phone’s name, the image’s file name certainly includes the phrase “Lumia-928″. While the Nokia page doesn’t spill any deets, the fine folks over at Engadget got a look at the ad in Vanity Fair (not really our rag; we’re more GQ and Vogue folks) and like the billboard from this weekend, it touts the Lumia 928′s low-light prowess. Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 reportedly spotted in the wild at a NYC event

The Nokia Lumia 928 has reportedly been seen in disguise in New York City during a private Nokia concert held for “social influencers, lifestyle and consumer media”. The Nokia Blog notes that numerous setups for recording video with supposed 928s in a thick black case was observed, and even a few Nokia folks had them closely guarded.

Nokia is believed to be announcing the mobile phone in the near future and should this report be accurate it can’t be long now.

While the hardware was disguised in cases, the website claims the Xenon flash was unmistakable. Looking at the shot below, it certainly looks like the renders we’ve covered in the past. Continue reading
